[ARCHIVED] Statement on Muhlenberg Township Authority's 'Customer Alert'

Township Logo

We have become aware of a 'Customer Alert' communication circulating within the Township, which is believed to be associated with the Muhlenberg Township Authority. We wish to clarify to our residents that, to our knowledge, this communication was not sanctioned by the Authority Board. In our recent Commissioners Meeting, the Board passed a motion to explore the possibility of dissolving the Authority, with the aim of integrating it as a Department within the Township.
Over the past year, the Commissioners have grown increasingly concerned about the long-term planning for our water and sewer infrastructure, the quality of service to our residents and businesses, effective communication, and the implementation of a robust preventative maintenance program to mitigate the effects of water main breaks and system failures. Additionally, there are concerns about the financial stewardship of the Authority, and we aim to ensure that funds are allocated judiciously to the aforementioned areas. We want to emphatically state that there are no plans to sell or privatize the Water and Sewer system to any external entity. Should the Authority be dissolved, it will seamlessly transition into the Township's organizational structure and will never be up for sale. Any claims to the contrary are wholly unfounded. It's important to note that any existing funds associated with the present MTA operations will continue to be exclusively utilized for water and sewer operations and will not be merged into the Township's general fund.
For any further queries, please reach out to the Township. We regret the dissemination of misleading information on social media, seemingly driven by political motives. If MTA Customers are interested in obtaining the Township Commissioners' position on the potential of dissolving the MTA, we invite you to attend our next meeting on October 16th.
