July means the return of one of Muhlenberg Township’s newest events. Drift Jam is a one-of-a-kind kayaking and music festival that lets you embrace the summer heat with a day of fun on the Schuylkill River and at Jim Dietrich Park. Muhlenberg Township has grown to become known as the premiere Township when hosting fun family events during the spring and summer seasons. With the wildly popular Spring Fiesta and RiverFest events in their 4th and 6th years respectively, Drift Jam is one of the Township’s newer events only in its second year looking to grow.  

What is Drift Jam? Drift Jam is an opportunity to spend the day kayaking on the Schuylkill River and then enjoying a clam bake and live music at Jim Dietrich Park in the evening. Kayakers will meet at Jim Dietrich Park at 12 noon on Saturday, July 16th to begin their day on the water. Rental equipment will be provided by Blue Marsh Outdoors (BMO). Rentals include kayaks, paddles, and life jackets for $35/person. Registration for this event and equipment is available online at https://secure.rec1.com/PA/muhlenberg-township-pa/catalog under facility and program rentals from now until July 11thIf you bring your own equipment there is only a $10 fee.

Once you take out your kayak at Jim Dietrich Park you can enjoy a clam bake, music and a beverage or two around the farmhouse area of the park from 4PM to 9PM. The bands scheduled to perform at Drift Jam this year are Havana Budda from 4PM to 5:30PM and Dave Kline and The Report presenting their tribute night to the music of The Rolling Stones and Creedence Clearwater Revival from 6PM to 9PM.
